Drawing on both my in-house editorial experience at Scribner, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, and my own experience as a writer, I partner with authors to help them realize the full potential of their in-progress or completed manuscripts + offer insight and encouragement as they navigate the tricky world of publishing.

I work primarily with aspiring fiction writers to help them hone and finesse everything from the overall structure of their story to clarity of prose. We partner together to get your manuscript unputdownable. I have worked with debut authors, on Pulitzer Prize winning teams, and with New York Times Bestsellers. My interests include literary fiction, historical fiction, and upmarket women’s fiction, as well as select memoir.

I am especially keen to work with writers seeking publication who identify as members of communities that are underrepresented in the industry at-large. I offer ‘sliding-scale’ and/or waived consultation fees for such individuals who are also in exceptional financial circumstances. Please get in touch if this may apply.

Here are some nice things recent clients have said about me:

“Working with Lauren was amazing. Her suggestions for improving everything from the plot to the characters were insightful, practical and always delivered with a huge dose of encouragement. It never felt like she was telling me to change my work to be something else. Lauren also has a great mix of business acumen: she knows publishing, she knows about book positioning and what agents are looking for. Finally, she’s an avid reader. It was wonderful to work with someone who actively reads new releases and is up to date with what’s happening in the industry. On top of all this, she’s a pleasure to work with. Smart, funny, kind and down to earth. I would recommend her without hesitation.”
— Amita Parikh, The Circus Train (International Bestseller)
“I would 110% recommend [Lauren] to anyone in need of editing services for their completed manuscript. Lauren’s advice and suggestions have noticeably strengthened my manuscript both in terms of plot and character development. It [is] night and day.”
— Bronwyn Scott-McCharen
“I struck gold with Lauren. I am delighted to have found such an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, critical, well-read and articulate editor, able to see the big picture but also point out very specific points which need to be addressed. This is a true collaboration, a writer’s dream.”
— Anne McMillan
